my empire of dirt
and now the word on the street is that i am losing my writing skills. well, you try being all witty and story-ful with maha-pms combined with maha-horniness and a serious rise in existenial angstism. X-(
My latest haunt in London is called Oval. yep, same as the cricket ground. the whole ward of lambeth in which the brit oval sits is named after it. there isn't very much wrong with the ward, but a dying community group has gritted its teeth and made the council pledge 10 grand to improve its public realm. as far as i can tell, Oval's only problem is that it's too close to westminster to be a 'london village', but too full of housing estates to be easily gentrified. i mean 'problem' here in an economic regeneration sense only, because of course, gentrification is what we don't want. I'm going in with camera, sketchbook and imagination, to find a way to make its inherent assets (solid georgian architecture, big park, small parks, small scale, sports institution, 2 cultural institutions), come into play and multiply each other's effects.
public realm = space between buildings + its use + who uses it
this is called populist writing. gnaaaah. all i actually want to talk about is my personal life. all other interests have taken the back seat, even london to an extent, until i find that missing 'something'.
